World’s First Remote Individual Finger Movement, From 2,000km Away

Myonerv has achieved a world first: remotely triggering movement in the individual fingers of a user’s hand from over 2,000km away, in a live demonstration connecting Cambridge and Athens.

The proof-of-concept demonstration used Myonerv’s wearable, closed-loop EMG-triggered functional electrical stimulation (FES) technology to control individual finger movements in real time, showcasing the potential for remote neurorehabilitation therapy delivered from anywhere in the world.

The milestone represents a significant step toward Myonerv’s vision of bringing hospital-grade rehabilitation into patients’ homes, with a clinician able to guide and deliver therapy remotely rather than requiring a patient’s physical presence in a clinical setting.

The technology was later shown in a live public demo at Venture Cafe in Manchester, where members of the public were able to control the individual fingers of the user’s hand themselves, in real time, from a remote tablet.
